Magee Elementary was opened in 2003. Named after Mrs. Anne Lipscomb Magee, who was the first to graduate from Edinburg High School in 1919 in a graduating class of two. Anne Magee was a teacher, administrator, social worker, counselor, chairperson of Historical Society in Edinburg, Texas, and devoted 40 years to ECISD.
"In 1976, Magee finished a manuscript detailing the history of the Edinburg school district. But it was never published. In the pages Magee wrote, the years closest to the founding of the school district include descriptions of the first building, the Woodmen of the World Meeting Hall near where today stands the Sacred Heart Church. 'To get to school, the students walked or rode horseback through the cactus and snake-infested brush,' she wrote." -More than Half Her Life to The Hundred-Year Cause by Rebecca Ward
Now in 2018, the transportation within the Edinburg school district has changed drastically, but the passion of Mrs. Magee lives on with the teachers and staff of Magee Elementary.
We have made her proud in her legacy by accomplishing 6 out of 6 Distinctions every year for 6 years in a row.
